I mulini ad acqua sul fiume Drava hanno costituito una posizione di rilievo nel mantenere una economia importante per i centri abitati che si affacciavano su questo fiume (vedi Osijek).

Da più di duecento anni questi mulini con il loro funzionamento, ( usati prevalentemente per la macinatura di mais, orzo, frumento ) non solo servivano per l'utilizzo dei loro proprietari ( che di solito variavano da 4 a 5 fino a 8), ma permettevano con la macinatura di fornire la popolazione dei centri abitati prospicienti il fiume, e anche di vendere al di fuori il prodotto macinato, favorendo così un commercio.

For more than two hundred years these mills with their operation (mainly used for grinding corn, barley, wheat) were used not only for the use of their owners (which usually ranged from 4 to 5 to 8), but allowed by grinding to provide the population of the villages overlooking the river, and also to sell the product outside the ground, thus promoting a business.

Questa forma di multiproprietà del mulino era legata prevalentemente ad un fattore pratico: la manutenzione del mulino (sostituzione pezzi rotti o avariati) comportava la manodopera di più persone. Inoltre per salvaguardare la proprietà si tendeva a tramandare il mestiere di mugnaio da padre a figlio. In inverno poi il mulino veniva smontato e portato sulla terra ferma, per evitare che il ghiaccio del fiume danneggiasse lo scafo del mulino.
