He began to paint on masonite and canvas, but when he saw for the first time paintings by Ivan Generalic, decided to paint on glass. He had the first lessons from Croat Ivan Lackovic and Dragan Gazi. Over the past thirty years has painted more than 800 paintings and has exhibited his works in several solo exhibitions and over 100 group exhibitions in Croatia and the world. Ivan Stefanek belongs to the cycle of school Hlebine, but is distinguished for its artistic expression. This singularity manifests itself in more colors, which are distinct from those of the authors Podravina as well as in heavy brush strokes. The themes are very different, and the harmony of colors, the author reveals love of nature that surrounds him and gives him all her joy. However the main themes are landscapes with water, with birds and other animals. painted the landscape that no longer exist. These are the scenes that he remembers from childhood, when nature was more pure and genuine. He likes to paint the meadows with many flowers, vines in spring and autumn, highlighting details that are disappearing.
